Obreedience

Obreedience

Introduced to Crufts in 2014, invites various breeds to ‘have a go’ in
competitive obedience in a fun, relaxed environment.

What is Obreedience?

Each Obreedience team must comprise of four handlers and four dogs of the same breed who take part in two rounds of competition, including a round of heelwork performed together as a group and then four set exercises including a retrieve, a ‘send to bed’, commanding the dog to stop, and a scent exercise.

There are around fifteen heats a year taking place all over the country, and Teams gain points depending on their placings from 1st – 10th at each heat.  At the end of the year ten teams are invited to compete at the Crufts Grand Finals.

The first team of Manchesters to compete in Obreedience were the Ratcatchers who blazed a successful trail before their retirement in 2019.  The current Team, MRU (formally Manchesters Reunited) formed in 2017 and have enjoyed considerable success finishing 1st, 4th, 2nd and =2nd in the Grand Finals in consecutive years from 2022 to 2025.
